Is the Tapo C216 (2-pack) worth it?
Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.
Most people buying their first camera buy one, discover the blind spot it created, and buy another six weeks later. Two in the box at this price skips that step.
IP65 and pan-tilt on both units means neither is locked into an indoor role, and the AI detection for people, motion and baby crying is stated as having no fees attached.
The 2.4 GHz requirement is in the listing and is worth checking against your router before ordering. Combined-band networks that hide the 2.4 GHz side are the most common reason cameras like this fail during setup rather than after it.
Indoor today, outdoor later
Two pan-tilt cameras with an IP65 rating is an unusual pairing. Most cheap pan-tilt models are indoor-only; these can move to a covered porch or a carport once you know where you actually need them. The listing gives 360 degrees of pan and 152 of tilt, motion tracking, and privacy zones that block recording in parts of the frame.
The constraint is in the first bullet of the listing: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is required. Outside, 2.4 GHz is the band that reaches further, so this is less of a problem than it is on a doorbell, but if your router merges both bands under one name, split them for setup. Use the privacy zones indoors from day one; a camera that turns can be pointed somewhere you did not intend.
What it costs to keep running
Plan fees for the Tapo C216 (2-pack) over five years: $0, because it keeps its own footage; the only thing to add is a high-endurance microSD card.
With a 128 GB card the Tapo C216 (2-pack) holds about 6 days of round-the-clock 2K footage, or about 7 months if it only records motion (about 40 minutes of clips a day).
Different card or recording mode? The storage calculator uses the same assumptions.
If this is not the one
- Tapo C120Cheapest camera that works indoors and out
- Wyze Cam v4Best cheap camera that is still worth owning
- Tapo C320WSBest outdoor camera overall
