What this budget buys
Thirty dollars used to buy a toy. It now buys 2K, a card slot and weatherproofing, which is the result of sensor prices collapsing rather than of any maker being generous.
What you still do not get is a large sensor, so night footage leans on the spotlight rather than on the optics, and low light at distance is where these cameras show their price. You also get the thinnest end of support and the shortest update commitment.
The upside is that at this price local storage is standard rather than premium, which means the cheapest cameras here are often the ones with the lowest five-year cost. A $25 camera with a card beats a $35 camera on a $5 plan before the first year is out.
