The best security cameras under $100

Where floodlights, dual-band Wi-Fi and serious battery cameras begin.

What this budget buys

Under a hundred dollars the useful additions are not more pixels. They are a floodlight bright enough to change behaviour, dual-band Wi-Fi that works at the end of a garden, and battery cameras with enough capacity to go months rather than weeks.

This is also where 4K arrives without a catch: a pan-tilt head that turns through a full circle, or an indoor camera that holds detail across an open-plan room, both recording to a card.

The trap in this bracket is brand-name hardware with a subscription attached. A ninety dollar camera from a large brand with a $5 monthly plan costs more across five years than a two-hundred dollar camera that records to a card, and the listing will never present it that way.

Your 2.4 GHz band is crowded and cameras keep dropping out at the edge of the property.
Look elsewhere if
The camera needs to go somewhere within easy reach. A magnetic mount outdoors invites trouble.
