What actually matters here

Doorbells are where the subscription question bites hardest, because recording is the entire point and recording is what plans withhold.

A doorbell that only shows live video is a peephole with a notification. The useful feature is going back to see who left the package or who was at the door at 11pm, and on the big-brand doorbells that is a paid feature. Every pick here keeps recordings locally instead.

Two practical traps account for most unhappy buyers. The first is Wi-Fi band: doorbells are usually 2.4 GHz only, and routers that merge both bands under one name often break setup. Split the bands, connect, recombine. The second is the transformer: an existing wired chime usually has one, but an underpowered one causes reboots every time the chime rings.

Angle matters more than on a wall camera. Mounted at standard height a doorbell frames chests rather than faces, and a wedge bracket costing a few dollars fixes it. If the door is set back in a porch, check the field of view against the geometry before buying; 166 degrees sounds enormous and still misses someone standing to one side of a deep recess.
