Is the Chamberlain myQ Outdoor Camera worth it?

Flat illustration of the Chamberlain myQ Outdoor Camera

Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.

This exists for a specific household: the one that already opens its garage from the Chamberlain app. Adding a camera that lives in the same place as the door control removes a genuine daily annoyance.

2K across 130 degrees with a built-in spotlight for full-colour night footage, running on battery so it mounts without wiring.

Without the myQ connection the case thins out considerably. Judged purely as a battery camera it is unremarkable at the price, and several cameras above it do more. Buy it for the integration or do not buy it.

Check the plan before you buy

The listing describes 2K video, a 130 degree lens, a built-in spotlight for colour night footage, motion alerts, and a magnetic head you lift off to charge over USB-C. What it does not state is how much recorded history you get without paying for a myQ plan. Look that up on Chamberlain's own site before buying, because it decides the five-year cost.

The reason to buy it is the app. If the garage door already opens from myQ, seeing the drive in the same place is a real daily convenience. Mount it where the garage door and the approach are both in frame, so one glance answers whether the door is shut and who walked up to it.

What it costs to keep running

Check Chamberlain's myQ plan before buying: the listing does not say how much history you keep without it. At a typical $5 to $10 a month, five years adds $300 to $600 to the price.

Put the maker's current plan price into the five-year cost calculator to see the total.
