Is the REOLINK Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) worth it?
Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.
A square 1:1 sensor sounds like a specification footnote and changes what a doorbell is for. Wide-format doorbells frame a torso; this one holds a whole person and the ground in front of the door in the same frame.
The listing claims up to ten months on a charge wire-free, with AI detection of people, vehicles, animals and packages stated as needing no subscription.
The evidence is thin. A small number of ratings is enough to show the product works and not enough to say anything about how it ages. If that matters more to you than the frame shape, the aosu doorbell has thousands of ratings behind it.
The free tier, read closely
The listing is specific about what is free: AI detection of people, vehicles, animals and packages with no subscription, and up to 25 rich notifications a day on the free plan. Past 25 a day you still get alerts, just plainer ones. For most front doors 25 is plenty; for a busy terrace it may not be.
Storage is flexible: a microSD card up to 512 GB, or a REOLINK Home Hub or recorder if you already have one. It runs up to ten months on battery by the listing's figure, or from 8 to 24 V AC doorbell wiring, which keeps the battery topped up. It also supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi, which is rare on a doorbell and helps where the router is far from the front door.
What it costs to keep running
Plan fees for the REOLINK Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) over five years: $0, because it keeps its own footage; the only thing to add is a high-endurance microSD card.
With a 128 GB card, the REOLINK Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) at 2K and about 40 minutes of clips a day holds about 7 months before the oldest clips are overwritten.
Different card or recording mode? The storage calculator uses the same assumptions.
