Is the Arlo Video Doorbell 2K (2nd Gen) worth it?
Drawn for this site. Not a product photo.
At around fifty dollars this is the cheapest entry to Arlo, and the hardware is sound: 2K, package detection, and a choice of wired or battery installation.
The listing is clear that Arlo Secure unlocks the 60-day history, the AI detection and the emergency response. Package detection is the feature people buy a doorbell for, and it sits on the paid side of that line.
If you are already paying for Arlo Secure for other cameras, adding this doorbell costs you nothing extra monthly and is an easy recommendation. If this would be your first Arlo device, read the no-subscription doorbells first.
Cheap to buy, not cheap to own
The listing is plain about it: live streaming and basic alerts work without a plan; 60-day history, AI detection and emergency response need Arlo Secure after the trial. On a doorbell, history and package detection are most of the reason to own one, so treat the plan as part of the price.
If you already pay for Arlo Secure for other cameras, this is an easy add: 2K, a head-to-toe frame, wired or battery installation, and works with Alexa, Apple Home and Google Home per the listing. If it would be your first Arlo device, the REOLINK 2nd Gen and aosu doorbells do the recording part without a plan.
What it costs to keep running
The features people buy it for need Arlo Secure. Modelled as a single-camera plan at $4.99 a month, five years of fees comes to $299. Check the maker's own page for today's price; plan prices change.
